The Old Schoolhouse is a 19th Century Schoolmaster’s house situated approximately 5 miles from Dumfries town centre, in a rural location, near the parish of Irongray. Our philosophy in equipping the accommodation has been simple. Think of what we would like- if we were staying there ourselves- and provide it! It is well appointed, with three comfortable bedrooms (a double, a king size, and a twin/superking with TV/DVD & Ipod docks), a large living room with 32” LCD TV, DVD, freeview via satellite dish, games, books, DVDs etc and a Nintendo Wii with various games including Wii Fit! (basically- everything you would have in your own home) and a large, well equipped kitchen/dining room. The bathroom is a triumph, with its original, roll-top bath and delicate decor, plus a separate shower room with wc. There is also a separate laundry roomwith a washer/dryer and ample drying facilities. The house has its own private garden, with two mature apple trees (help yourself!), and with all the necessary garden furniture etc that you might wish to use. Children are catered for with balls, toys, inflatables, paddling pool etc. Access to the adjacent climbing frame is available with parental supervision and discretion*. As
well as all of this, the Old School & Schoolhouse share thier own
private woodland. (The woodland is situated in a natural flood plain, and is therefore liable to flooding in the winter months. If use of the woods is important to you, and you are thinking of coming between October-April, please let us know at least two weeks in advance, and we will try to ensure that they are usable (we can pump out any sitting water).) **All linens/towels, electicity & oil are included** *Parents may allow thier children to use the climbing frame at thier own risk. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times and the safety of the child is entirely the responsibility of the parent. Parents are urged to check the safety of the climbing frame before thier child uses it and notify us as soon as possible if they have any concerns. Turn up & sit down! Here at the Old School & Old Schoolhouse we like to operate a ‘turn up & sit down’ policy. This means you’ll find at least a small supply of all the basics on your arrival so that, in theory at least, you could turn up and sit down for the first day of your holiday. Why not have your whole week's groceries delivered by one of the main supermarkets and I'll be there to meet it. These basics include: Tea, coffee and sugar, Salt and pepper, Herbs and spices, Tea towels - one for each day, Cling film and tin foil, Wash up liquid, Laundry detergent, bin bags and other cleaning essentials, Hair dryer, Ironing board and iron, Bathroom soap, bathbombs and/or other bath smellies, Logs for the fires. (the fires are set and ready for your arrival) If there’s anything else you’d like please don’t hesitate to ask. |
