Nestled in the rolling Galloway hills, the Old School is a luxury 4 bedroomed, detached, Victorian former school which has been renovated to a high standard and extended to form a spacious, light and airey cottage. With all the comforts of home and beautiful views, the house has a large, well appointed kitchen/dining room with a lovely pillar box red Aga, a rangemaster range cooker and a sleek black glass side-by-side American fridge. The large, comfortable living room has a Jotul wood burning stove, beautiful views across the valley and french windows leading to the central courtyard garden. For rainy days the lounge has a 40" LCD TV, DVD, Wii with various games, and books and games aplenty. The Old School has wireless internet access, and music systems with CD players, tuners and ipod docks.

The master bedroom offers the choice of two single beds or a superking, has a lovely en suite showerroom, an LCD TV and views into the courtyard garden. Of the other three bedrooms (two doubles, one king) two of the rooms have LCD TVs and the other accesses the sunroom. All have VERY comfy beds and offer lovely views into the large, surrounding garden and the beautiful, rolling countryside beyond. The main family bathroom has a whirlpool bath and all the soft, fluffy towels you could need are included. There is also a very convenient wc near the reception areas.

The private, central courtyard garden is a riot of colour and a sun-trap in summer and is supplied with appropriate garden furniture. The surrounding large garden comes complete with fish pond and Children are welcome to use the climbing frame in the adjacent orchard with parental supervision and discretion.. The Old School and The Old Schoolhouse also have a native woodland (approximately 3 acres), with two burns running through; open 'fire-pit' barbeque area; wild flowers and wildlife a-plenty. 5 miles from Dumfries town centre, in a tranquil, rural setting.

The houses are ideally situated to explore Southwest and Central Scotland , Northern Ireland and Northern England. But with all the Old School has on hand, you may just want to stay home and relax!

Turn up & sit down!

Here at the Old School & Old Schoolhouse we like to operate a ‘turn up & sit down’ policy. This means you’ll find at least a small supply of all the basics on your arrival so you can turn up and sit down for the first day of your holiday. Why not have your whole week's groceries delivered by one of the main supermarkets.

These basics include: Tea, coffee and sugar, Salt and pepper, Herbs and spices, Tea towels - one for each day, Cling film and tin foil, Wash up liquid, Laundry detergent, bin bags and other cleaning essentials, Hair dryer, Ironing board and iron, Bathroom soap, bathbombs and/or other bath smellies, Logs for the fires.
